Science glossary film: Transparent

Capable of transmitting light, or more generally something that allows radiation to pass through relatively unhindered. Substances that are transparent in one wavelength may not be transparent in another. Our atmosphere is clear to visible light, but blocks most of the ultraviolet radiation, and some infrared. Fog, however, is more transparent to some infrared wavelengths than to visible light.
