Or ribonucleic acid, is a nucleic acid, similar to DNA. It transmits the genetic information in DNA from the nucleus, out into the cell's cytoplasm, where it's used as a template to construct proteins. Like DNA, it's a long-chain molecule of nucleotide building blocks, but the repeating units in RNA contain ribose, rather than deoxyribose, and form only single-strand molecules, rather than a double-stranded helix.
