A period of warmer climate in between the glacial periods of an ice age. We are currently in an interglacial period that began about 15,000 years ago. As a result, the Earth is experiencing typically mild interglacial conditions, in between the extremes of glaciation and the warmer periods when ice has been completely absent from the planet's surface.
