An organ that produces a specific substance the body needs, such as a hormone. Glands are broadly split into two types. Endocrine glands, which secrete their chemicals into the bloodstream. And exocrine glands which secrete their chemicals through ducts to where they are used, for example the liver, pancreas and the saliva glands in the mouth.
