A substance that is able to flow freely. Liquids and gases are both types of fluid. Ferrofluids are liquids that contain tiny magnetic particles. When a ferrofluid is placed inside a magnetic field, these particles become magnetised, causing it to behave like a solid. If we touch the spikes with a splint, however, we can see that they are still, in fact, a fluid.
