Any organism that gets its energy by consuming other organisms.

Any organism that gets its energy by consuming other organisms. Consumers can be grouped according to their position in a food chain. Primary consumers feed on plants and other producers. Secondary consumers feed on primary consumers. And tertiary consumers feed on secondary consumers. Decomposers, such as fungi and some bacteria, are also consumers. These decomposers gain nutrients and energy by breaking down and consuming dead plant and animal matter.
