The cycle of events involved in normal cell growth and division in multicellular organisms. Cells go through a phase of growth and normal metabolism, followed by a synthesis phase, during which DNA is replicated to prepare for cell division. A second growth phase follows, before the cell divides, and the cycle begins again.
