Science glossary film: Carnivore

An animal that gets most or all of its energy from eating other animals. Some carnivores are scavengers, which means they feed on dead animal tissue, while others are predators, which hunt and kill live prey. A carnivore that feeds primarily on insects is called an insectivore. These carnivorous caterpillars have disguised themselves as twigs, enabling them to grab unsuspecting flies. This provides the caterpillars with all the energy they need.
