Science glossary film: Anticyclone

A high-pressure weather system with winds spiralling outwards from the centre. In the northern hemisphere anticyclones spin clockwise, and in the southern hemisphere anticlockwise, due to the Earth's rotation. Anticyclones usually bring dry and settled weather. Jupiter's Red Spot is an example of an extraterrestrial anticyclone, a storm that has been raging for as long as astronomers have been able to see the planet clearly.
