In the study of waves, amplitude is the maximum displacement of a wave from its rest position.

In the study of waves, amplitude is the maximum displacement of a wave from its rest position. On a wave diagram, this is the height between the peak and midpoint of the wave. It's related to the energy of the wave. In a sound wave for example, the bigger the amplitude, the louder the sound.
